Our GEICO Community Spotlight is on Chief Diversity Officer, Carl Tims. Starting out as a service counselor, Tims has dedicated his time at GEICO to bringing people together.

Chief Diversity Officer, Carl Tims

Carl Tims serves as vice president and Chief Diversity Officer, leading our Community Engagement and Diversity and Inclusion planning center. His tenure at GEICO most recently included serving as assistant vice president of claims for our Southeast and Midwest regions. Tims began his career with GEICO in 1992 as a service counselor in our regional office in Macon, Georgia. Soon after, he transitioned to liability claims as a claim service representative (CSR) and was later promoted to continuing unit examiner before moving into management as a CSR supervisor in 1998 and a CSR manager in 2003. Tims moved to GEICO's corporate headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland, in 2005, where he took on the role of director of claims performance review and then entered GEICO's Executive Assistant Program. Upon completing that management program, Tims became regional liability director for our regional office in Lakeland, Florida before returning to the Macon regional office in 2010.

In addition to his current role, Tims has been very involved in the company's social responsibility initiatives and presently serves as a board member for the GEICO Educational Foundation and the Harriet Tubman Museum in Georgia. He has served on several other community boards, including United Way of Central Georgia and the Urban League of Greater Atlanta.

Tims earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Georgia Southwestern State University College. He holds professional designations in Claims Law, Associate in Claims (AIC), and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), which is widely seen as the most distinguished insurance designation.

Our Diversity Celebrations & Activities

The celebrations include Black History, Asian Pacific Islanders, Hispanic Heritage, Women's History, Pride, Irish Heritage and Native American. Activities at our diversity celebrations include panel discussions with leaders representing the diversity of our company, education focused on the community being celebrated, dancing, food and other cultural highlights, as well as outside speakers to increase associates' awareness of the contributions of various cultures and demographic groups.

Additionally, we are involved with organizations supporting the LGBTQ+, Latino, Black, Native American and several other diverse communities. This support comes through our management team's participation on the boards of several organizations and our associates' volunteer work–which includes participation in mentoring and tutoring programs; serving and advocating for urban communities to promote wellness, justice, equality, and essential human services; parenting and support services; and supporting compromised communities through food banks and other organizations that focus on homelessness.

GEICO has been a strong partner with the United Way for over 35 years, and our associates faithfully donate time and money to support United Way member organizations serving diverse communities.

We also partner with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other organizations that target students with diverse backgrounds. Whether through board memberships, participating in activities on campus, meeting with diverse students to discuss career opportunities or working with schools to ensure students are well prepared to enter the workforce, GEICO management is committed to recruiting diverse candidates with unique experiences and perspectives.
